Why We Created the Bolo do Caco & Espetada Workshop at Home

At Casa da Nati, cooking Bolo do Caco and Espetada at home is not something new. It is something we have done as a family for as long as we can remember. These meals have always been part of our life — shared with family, friends, and anyone who happens to be around our table.

In Madeira, food is a way of bringing people together. At home, we cook, talk, laugh, and spend long hours around the table. This is how we grew up, and this is how we still live today.

Inviting People In, Just Like Family

Over the years, when meeting people on the streets of Madeira — often visitors exploring the island — we naturally invited them to our home to share a meal. There was no plan behind it. It was simply who we are.

Time and time again, people loved the experience. Many later sent us messages saying that being welcomed into our home and sharing a traditional meal was one of the highlights of their time on Madeira Island.

Listening to the Feedback That Inspired Us

Reading those messages touched us deeply. They made us realize that what felt normal to us was something truly special for others.

We have always loved sharing our culture, our food, and our way of life. With all this positive feedback, we began to believe we could create something meaningful — an experience that stays true to our roots, while also helping support our family.

Turning a Way of Life into a Workshop

That is how the idea of the Bolo do Caco and Espetada workshop was born.

By opening our home and kitchen to more people, we found a way to continue doing what we love while building a small family business. We believe this is a win-win situation. Our family shares our traditions, stories, and food, and in return, we receive the support needed to keep this activity alive and sustainable.

Why We Chose Our Home and Kitchen

Choosing to host the workshop in our own house was very important to us. We wanted everything to be real.

This is how a Madeiran family cooks and eats — in our kitchen, in our home, together. We are not trying to recreate a tradition. We are simply sharing it as it is.

Keeping It Personal, Traditional, and Fair

We are incredibly happy and grateful that people have been enjoying this experience and helping make it work.

Our goal is to keep the workshop personal, traditional, and welcoming, while adapting carefully to demand. We want to offer a fair price, keep the quality high, and make sure every guest feels part of our family, even if just for a few hours.

Our Purpose Moving Forward

Above all, our purpose remains the same: to show what we truly do as a Madeiran family and to keep sharing our culture in the most honest way possible.
